Farms to be inspected by HSE – unannounced spot checks – Autumn 2021… Are you Ready

If you work in Agriculture then you should be interested in this article. The HSE have announced that they will be launching a new initiative that will see them visiting Farms across the UK to complete unannounced health and safety inspections. This is due to start in November 2021 and run until January 2022. YOU need to be ready and WE will help you prepare. Watch the video and follow the useful links. Which parts of the UK will be targetted? 

  • South Wales.
  • Cumbria & Lancashire.
  • Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire.
  • Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire.

Is there any FREE training to help me prepare?

Yes. The HSE will be writing to Farmers in the selected areas offering free, online, health and safety training. There are a limited number of places available and allocation will be on a first come-first served basis.

What will the Inspector be looking for during the inspection?

You should be able to demonstrate the following (including but not limited to)

  • Health and safety training records e.g. first aid, pesticides, chainsaw, forklift truck/telehandler etc.
  • Health and safety policy and risk assessments (in writing – where applicable – contact us for more information).
  • Evidence of machinery maintenance.
  • Procedures for fire safety and first aid facilities.
  • Gas safety compliance records.
  • Electrical installation condition reports.
  • Asbestos surveys.
  • Safety of pedestrians.
  • Work at height safety.
  • Safe working with animals.
  • Prevention of occupational diseases.
  • Accident records.

A similar initiative was completed in 2019 in the Northeast, Yorkshire and Scotland. Between January and March 2022 some follow up visits will be made to a sample of the farms that were visited to see if there has been an improvement in safety standards.
